The Captain Of Our Salvation: Be Of Good Cheer. I Am With You!

Welcome to The Captain Of Our Salvation Flashcards

The Captain of our salvation is interceding for His people. He is not a petitioner moving the Father’s compassion, but a conqueror, who claims the trophies of His victory.

Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25.

His offering is complete. As our Intercessor He executes His self-appointed work. Christ is holding before God the censer containing His own spotless merits and the prayers, confessions, and thanksgiving of His people. The offering is wholly acceptable and pardon covers all transgression.

The great Captain of our salvation has conquered in our behalf, that through Him we might conquer, if we would, in our own behalf. But Christ saves none against their choice. He compels none to obedience. Jesus made the infinite sacrifice that His followers might overcome in His name and His righteousness be imputed unto them.
In order to be saved you must accept the yoke of Christ and lay off the yoke which you have fashioned for your neck. The victory that Jesus gained in the wilderness is a pledge to you of the victory that you may gain through His name.

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature; For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him;

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

[q] Question:

What was the Savior’s purpose in coming into the world?

[a] Answer: 1 Timothy 1:15; Matthew 1:21

The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

[q] Question:

In whom can the redeemed fully rejoice?

[a] Answer: Isaiah 61:10

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

[q] Question:

What attribute of God is shown in continuing to offer salvation to mankind?

[a] Answer: 2 Peter 3:9, 15

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

[q] Question:

Notwithstanding the Lord’s long-suffering, what must surely come?

[a] Answer: 2 Peter 3:10; Revelation 22:11, 12

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

[q] Question:

What, therefore, is the duty of mankind?

[a] Answer: Isaiah 55:6, 7

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near; Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

[q] Question:

All the power of the eternal God being pledged to secure our salvation, what responsibility is laid upon us?

[a] Answer: Hebrews 2:3

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

[q] Question:

What will be said in that day by those who are waiting for him?

[a] Answer: Isaiah 25:9

And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

[q] Question:

What will the wicked do and say?

[a] Answer: Revelation 6:15-16; Isaiah 2:18-21

The kings of the earth, great and rich men, chief captains, mighty and bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;

The idols he shall utterly abolish. And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

In conclusion

The Captain of our salvation leads His people on step by step. He is purifying and fitting them for translation. He has said for our encouragement: Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:20. Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33. Christ will lead us on to a victory over sin. What God promises, He is able at any time to perform. The spirit, wisdom, and goodness of God, revealed in His word, are to be exemplified by the disciples of Christ. Thus they are condemning the world.

Moreover, He is leaving in the rear those who are disposed to draw off from the body, who are not willing to be led, and are satisfied with their own righteousness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! Matthew 6:23. No greater delusion can deceive the human mind than that which leads men to indulge a self-confident spirit. Moreover, to believe that they are right and in the light, when they are drawing away from God’s people, and their cherished light is darkness.
