Welcome to Q&A of Seventh-day Sabbath Institution page

The same seventh day Sabbath – founded, hallowed and blessed by God at creation – is reinforced in His moral Law. it is the forth commandment of the Decalogue.

It is to be remembered and observed as memorial of the Creator’s work. Moreover, it points to God as the Maker of Heaven and the earth, distinguishing Him as the true God from all false gods.

Therefore, by observing the Sabbath we show that we recognize God as the living God – the Creator of Heaven and earth.

God blessed humans with capacity to appreciate His character, love and relationship. Furthermore, with ability to love Him, and to choose His service.

To those who love God it will be the highest delight to keep His Commandments and to do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

Furthermore, in order to keep the Sabbath holy, people must themselves be holy. Through faith and by Christ’s grace they must become partakers of His righteousness.

Question: For whom was the Sabbath made?

Answer: Mark 2:27, 28.

And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Question: When was the Sabbath made?

Answer: Genesis 2:2, 3.

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Question: Was the Sabbath known and observed before the giving of the law on Sinai?

Answer: Exodus 16:4, 5.

Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

Exodus 16:23-30

And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

They laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.

And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the Lord: to day ye shall not find it in the field.

Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.

And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

See, for that the Lord hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

So the people rested on the seventh day.

Question: Of what is the Sabbath a memorial?

Answer: Psalms 111:4.

He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered.

Question: Through whom were all things created?

Answer: Colossians 1:16

For by Him (Christ) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.

Hebrews 1:1, 2

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

John 1:1-3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Question: Who rested, blessed, and sanctified the seventh day?

Answer: Christ, being the Creator made the Sabbath and gave it to humans as a sign of His creative power.

Question: What commandment enjoining the observance of the Sabbath was spoken from Sinai? Which day is the Sabbath ? What reason is given for its observance?

Answer: Exodus 20:8-11.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Question: Who spoke this precept from the mount?

Answer: Nehemiah 9:11-14.

And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.

Moreover thou leddest them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go.

Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:

And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant;

Question: Of what is the Sabbath a sign?

Answer: Ezekiel 20:12, 20.

Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.

And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God.

Question: If God’s people had been faithful in observing the Sabbath, how long would Jerusalem have stood?

Answer: Jeremiah 17:24, 25.

And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the Lord, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;

Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever.

Question: How long will it continue to be a sign between God and His people?

Answer: Exodus 31:16, 17.0

Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Question: Will the holy Sabbath be kept in the new earth?*0

Answer: Isaiah 66:22, 23

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain.

And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.

Conclusion

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

On the next day – the seventh day, God had established His memorial of creation. Blessing is pronounced on time as it was on living creatures.

God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it. Thus He endowed this day with quality He posses.

Furthermore, after creating the planet earth and everything needed for Adam and Eve to live in Eden, on the next day – the seventh day of God’s rest He had a face to face communion with them.
